Our Story...

In the summer of 2005, plans were made to provide a self storage facility at the Old quarry site near Ashburton. The construction of the site proved arduous due to the limestone rock. The development of the site was to remove the old “lean to” buildings and create new high grade Industrial warehousing complex, ring fenced in with security fencing. The construction started in September 2006 for the phase one of the development through to completion of phase two in July 2008. Due to the forthcoming completion of phase one, Westcountry Storage Solutions as a Partnership was created in March 2007 and the facility opened for business on 1st August 2007.

Early days

We had a initial rush of clients due to the housing market, which was at its peak at the time, though short term it provided the newly formed Westcountry Storage Solutions some needed revenue and also helped place the business on the map locally.

Unfortunately the level of activity in the housing market could not continue, and only a month after the opening of our new facility, Northern Rock got into financial difficulties, which we now know as the start of the recession and the bank bail outs that happened with nearly every major high street bank in the coming weeks and months. This overnight effected our clients' income, as the banks and mortgage lenders withdrew lending to a point that it slowed the market to a standstill. With the impending opening of phase two, Westcountry Storage Solutions needed to find other avenues for revenue, which we successfully achieved through helping small businesses to larger clients that required, clean, secure facilities for their place of work.

Phase Two

Phase two opened in July 2008 and the space was filled by September of that year. We expanded our services to clients, with external storage containers, archive and van rental. The inclusion of additional services opened up the possibility of different types of clients using our facilities for their business or services to their businesses.

Westcountry Storage Solutions continued to grow and the partnership decided that another site would need to be opened Exeter. Plans were made and potential sites were viewed for the possibility of expansion and in July 2010 a new site in Exeter was sourced. The site was opened on August 1st 2010, which was the largest open storage facility in Exeter. The facility quickly started to fill up with domestic clients, businesses, and students, providing a service to the people of Exeter and the surrounding area.

Continued Growth...

With the opening of the Exeter site we added another service to our list, storage of caravans, motorhomes, boats and vehicles, which we added a Gold CaSSoa accreditation that is a recognition of the quality of the sites, security, and service we provide.

Our aim is to bring this dedication to quality and good service to the self storage industry, making storing with us a pleasant experience, and to have a facility close to you.

Westcountry Storage Solutions are now registered with GS1, the Global Language of Business for Asset Identification. GS1 use unique numbers that are used in Barcodes, RFID Tags & Product Data Management to support the world's supply chains & Healthcare Systems.
